Real solo Cello soundfont ?

Hi,

I've tried a lot of cellos soundfonts over there but none of them convinced me.
I hear that they are all sounding more or less as a trump.
I wonder if it could be a sound card issue. (I am currently using Musescore 2 with a *light* PC)

if it could not be related to the sound card, do you know any specialized soundfont about cellos that is sounding at least a little bit like a real cello ? I mean,I found any piano is sounding as something approaching a piano, but impossible to get something useful about cellos.

If you have one, I'd like to here what can be done with it (mp3), if it is possible.... to be sure it's not my fault.

I found that the best one for me (by far) is still "Fluid R3 GM".

Thanks for any help.

SoundFont for Glass Harmonica?

Is there a SoundFont for a Glass Harmonica? Because I need a SoundFont that "ACTUALLY" sounds like a Glass Harmonica. I know that the Fluid, GeneralUser, etc SoundFonts have the Instrument Preset called "Bowed Glass", which "DOESN'T" even "SOUND CLOSE" to a Glass Harmonica in MuseScore. The closest Glass Harmonica Sound that I can find is from the Yamaha XG Sound Set, the Preset "BowedPad" kind of sounds close to a Glass Harmonica Sound.

Here are some example projects that have to do with this question. The Aquarium from Saint-Saens's Carnival of the Animals in MIDI and .Ogg Format (Links), and with different SoundFonts rather than the Yamaha one. You may NOT here the Glass Harmonica part at all in some of the SoundFonts, but a little bit in the Glissandos or Something. Some of these SF2s may NOT sound good, but oh well. (Even the Glass Harmonica/Bowed Glass/Pad part is kind of Highlighted a little bit). Also the .mscz file of "Memory from Cats", which also has a Glass Harmonica part here. (You will need to use "Audacity" to open up the .Ogg files).

The Instruments in the MIDI file are the "ORIGINAL" ones that Saint-Saens wrote and how performers should perform this.

Here are the Links to the Audio Files, and a link to the .mscz file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2I_8bgGH-Q3NHhuVEFuNHI2RUE/view?usp=sh...

Let me know if you all have found some Glass Harmonica SoundFonts!

What is Synth Voice in the GM Midi list?

I can also ask this for Solo Vox. What I'm meaning is that in a GM Soundfont it always includes Synth Voice and Solo Vox. I'm pretty new to MIDI and music scoring, and just have been messing around with things to find out. I can't seem to find anywhere what a "Synth Voice" or "Solo Vox" is. Kazoo in the instrument list uses these above listed sound, which sounds nothing like a kazoo. I don't know if this is where I should ask this question or not.

Muted trombone?

Even in the general soundfont the option for a muted trombone is not even in the lists (and the mixer doesn't provide the option when loaded). A muted trombone is, however, often used in jazz/big band scoring and not uncommonly for orchestral scores.

Does anyone know of a decent soundfont for this? Thanks.

Soundfont Questions

So I just recently downloaded the "Timbres of Heaven" SoundFont which I have just a few problems with, which I will list.

1. Whenever I change the SoundFont of one of my scores, it duplicates the changes made onto every other score that I have. Example: I change song A from Default SoundFont to ToH, then all other songs change to ToH.

2. I know you can change what instrument sounds come from each instrument in the mixer, like changing a trumpet to a clarinet, but some of the ToH sounds I don't enjoy, so the next question I have is, can you use a combination of two or more SoundFonts? I want to replace the ToH trumpet with the default, but all I see in the mixer is ToH instruments.

3. I got the Orchestral Percussion SoundFont and found that instead of adding it through Fluid in the synthesizer, it is added through Zerberus. After I added all of the new percussion to Zerberus, nothing changed, no different sounds, and the mixer didn't display anything for the matter either.

4. If there is a SoundFont that you like to use or think is good, reply with the link or name, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

To promote music from other cultures, it is necessary to add the sounds of their instruments into the sound fonts. May I know how can this be done? Thanks!

Sfz using - error or not?

Hi!
I use sfz for emulating bells. I attach one wav-file to one note. It looks very simple.
But sometimes it works, sometimes not and I'm totally confused to understand - why. Can anybody help me, please?
Here is ziped example - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Byblwl1einqsS1Npel9PTDVpSkU
There are two similar scores: DBells-5(sfz).mscz and 3-7(sfz).mscz. DBells-5 uses 000_DBells-5_main.sfz and 3-7(sfz) uses 000_3-7.sfz. In DBells-5 notes A-35, B-35 and D-38 - play, but F-29 and f-41 play not. The sfz is very simple:

lokey=23 hikey=89
loop_mode=loop_continuous
ampeg_release=10

sample=samples\2007_02_LH_03_-0_5d.wav
volume=10
lokey=29 hikey=29
pitch_keycenter=29
offset=1000
end=659505
... and so on...

For test I have built 000_3-7.sfz for 3-7(sfz).mscz with 3,4,5,6,7-voice sounds and it play all notes. The sfz is very same:

lokey=23 hikey=89
loop_mode=loop_continuous
ampeg_release=10

sample=samples\3.wav
volume=10
lokey=29 hikey=29
pitch_keycenter=29
offset=0
end=43155
... and so one ...

I can't understand why 3.wav plays but 2007_02_LH_03_-0_5d.wav doesn't.
Can you help?

How do I add Sonatina symphonic orchestra soundfonts using musescore 2.1

$

I've been trying to figure out how to add new soundfonts to musescore but all the links I've looked at have not helped me at all. I''m trying to get Sonatina symphonic orchestra soundfonts on musescore because it's due time for me to get them.. From the websites I've looked at ive gathered that i (I'm using windows tenn 32 bit):

. download file
. copy it to musescore2/soundfonts
. go to edit/preferences/folders/soundfonts and add that soundfont in the space
. go to view/synthesizer/fluid/ or view/synthesizer/zerberus and add it to one of them depending on your
file type

My problem lies in that the sonatina symphonic orchestra file (under musescore 2/soundfonts) will not show up in the fluid section, and if I try zerberus all the individual instruments show up but if i download them and set them to default it still just uses the regular musescore sounds.

I've been banging my head against the keyboard for 2 days now!! I'd soo love some help! Thanks so much!

here are the links to the websites i've used to get information:

https://musescore.org/en/node/82641

Thanks again!

Muted Strings SoundFont/Replacement?

Hey guys, sorry to bother y'all again with a question regarding muted strings.
Is there a particular soundfont that includes these muted strings? If not, is there a good replacement (SoundFont or within MuseScore) for the muted strings? I'm transcribing a Mahler Symphony, and would LOVE it if a solution is found!!!

All the best,
Eleas V.

Musescore 2.1 and the current "hot" soundfonts.

I love Musescore 2.1. Up till now I have been using the default Musescore sounds for all the instruments and I am currently researching all the current and popular soundfonts such as Sonatina and Virtual playing orchestra. It appears Sonatina hasn't been updated in a few years as evident by their website. I was hoping if this forum could share links and their thoughts to all the current and popular soundfonts that are compatible with Musescore 2.1. Thank you.

Trombone Glissandos and Low Notes

$

It would be really cool if the MIDI trombone sound could play glisses that are playable on the trombone (or even not playable if it's too much work) smoothly; that is, without going through each chromatic pitch note-by-note. This is one of the ever-decreasing number of things Finale can do that MuseScore can't.

Also, the bottom ranges between "Tenor Trombone,""Trombone," and "Bass Trombone" are just wrong. Tenor trombone (no F attachment) is shown as having a pro range of E2-D5, which is correct. The problem comes in between the instruments labeled "Trombone" and "Bass Trombone." The lowest note of the Musescore "Trombone" is shown as B1, while the lowest note of the "Bass Trombone" is shown as C2. In reality, if we think of the generic "Trombone" as a tenor trombone with an F attachment, its lowest note before pedal tones would be a very sharp C2 and it would not be able to hit B1. This is what makes Bass Trombone different, because by using both valves, it CAN play B1. So, without counting pedal tones, the lowest playable notes should be E2 for "Tenor Trombone," C2 for "Trombone," and B1 for "Bass Trombone." (Don't listen to the websites that tell you that tenor and bass trombone have the same range. If they did, then why would both exist?)

Now to get into pedal tones. Bass Trombone is a unique brass instrument because it is the only one that regularly uses pedal tones as legitimate notes in solo (and occasionally orchestral or big band) repertoire. A high school (amateur) bass trombone player will most likely be able to play at least to Ab1 with good tone, and a professional will be able to play down to Eb1 (and even down to Bb0 but with less clarity/flexibility).

I love this notation software, I hope these changes can be made so it can become even better! Finale will be going out of business in no time!

Marching Band Sound Fonts?

I'm looking for a good sound font for marching band as a whole, something that allows the marching percussion to work properly, the gong hits to ring and an overall realistic sound. Does anyone know of any?
