Making Musescore sounds more realistic

$

Hi,
While I have been composing, I've noticed that the given sounds aren't really very realistic on Musescore. I want to improve them a lot but I can't find a way to without paying a heap of money. If there are apps or sound fonts that I could download preferably for free that anyone knows of, please leave a comment below.
Thanks

The Four Seasons Ensemble SoundFont

Do you all like Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons? Do you want a great SoundFont that plays that piece?, Then you came to the right place! "THE FOUR SEASONS ENSEMBLE SOUNDFONT!!!"

Download the SoundFont here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B2I_8bgGH-Q3cW5aUFZDelZUOFk?usp=...

Since I called another SoundFont "Brandenburg Ensemble.sf2,"https://musescore.org/en/node/141261 I decided to name this SoundFont "The Four Seasons Ensemble." DOUBLE-LOL!!!

There's TOO MUCH to explain about the SoundFont here, but you can read these articles including the License and other stuff that goes with the SoundFont.

Let me know if you like the SoundFont or not, and Feel-Free to Comment, Ask Questions or Concerns, and what you like about the SoundFont and what your favorite instrument is.

Enjoy the SoundFont.

Soundfont playback on musescore.com

So I just installed a soundfont and it works perfectly fine in the program while I'm writing my music. I can hear the difference and in the Synthesizer everything is correctly working
But then, I uploaded my score online and I hit play and the default soundfont plays.
I thought I would be able to hear the newly installed soundfont but the default one just plays. Also, the audio sources section of my score is not there. I have been able to switch soundfonts on other scores I've seen...
Maybe this is a rookie mistake but, is it possible for musescore.com to play my soundfont like it works in the program? How would I do that? Maybe I didn't save it right?

NPNO files/ Fortepiano sf2 files

Below is a sampled fortepiano after Anton Walter, from whom Mozart bought his instrument in the 1780s.

http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-libraries/nord-piano-library/chris-ma...

The site also contains a Broadwood, which would be extremely useful for Beethoven and Schubert's works.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think an NPNO to Sf2 conversion is even possible. Is this true? Or is there, somehow, a solution to this problem?

And while we're on this note, is there a legitimate fortepiano soundfont, preferably a free one? I'm not talking about a modified Honkey-tonk either, I mean a soundfont made after a Walter or Broadwood. Maybe even a Graf or Cristofori?

Trouble Using Gong Soundfont

Hi, Eleas here-

I've downloaded and installed a Gong SoundFont onto MuseScore, but I can't get it to work. I try using the Crash Cymbal for using the Gong SoundFont, but I am unable to select it. When I go to the Mixer, the cymbal has the "Standard" box checked, therefore I am unable to get to it. Unchecking the box and choosing it will get nothing on playback. I want to use an instrument that has a one-line staff, so it looks like a gong staff and sounds like one. I am unable to find a way however to have the gong play on playback for any of the instruments - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eleas Vrahnos

Symphonic Sounds Updated

Added:

Westgate Trumpet Sus - not looped, different timbres at different velocities, same FF samples as westgate ff

French Horn UoI - not looped, faked different velocity levels.

EWQL Crotales(antique cymbals) - from EastWest's free library. These are chromatic percussion, not a drumset.

3 celli Soli - Because I've had a need for smaller string groupings than either solo or a large orchestra section. Created by combining Cadenza, Ethan and Kanilla's Cellos.

Guiros to the Percussion soundfont - a downstroke and an upstroke. Samples are from a collection of 89 guiro sounds someone posted on the kvr forums. They're right above the ratchet, keys 74 & 75, I believe.

Viola Solo - I don't actually remember where I grabbed this from, but it sounds pretty good.

Moved and renamed: Cadenza Viola to Soli Viola Cad. Soli, because it actually sounds like a small viola group as opposed to a solo instrument. If you check the sound font, it's solo viola + a section, so that seems a bit more accurate anyway.

I have my own clarinet half-done. I'll probably post that seperately, with Bb and A - there are *not* enough clarinet soundfonts that sound anything close to reality.

To get to gongs/guiros/snare and triangle rolls, make a drumset, make sure 'drumset' is checked in the mixer, pick 'Percussion' from the drop down menu, and when you start adding notes, go to edit drumset in the box at the bottom, and load this:

If you want to edit it yourself, the gong sounds are keys 67, 68, and 69.

I recently downloaded a .zip file of a German Harpsichord with individual .wav files for each individual stop. How do make a legitimate soundfont with said files?

Help/Step-by-steps will be much appreciated. If interested, I can provide a download link if you'd like.

Can't Get Guitar sound fonts installed

I have gone where sound fonts are mentioned and tried to follow the directions, but I haven't any luck.

Has anybody else had these problems and what did they do about it?

Also are there any free sound fonts for twelve string guitar?

I love Musescore, however the guitar fonts aren't very good especially when they are playing chords. Instead of sounding musical they sound noisey.

Polyphone SFZ -> SF2 Conversion

$

Although I see that some have posted about this free software already (http://polyphone.fr/), I wanted to clarify that this thing, besides creating soundfonts, can do a quick conversion from an .SFZ into an .SF2 file by simply opening an .SFZ and then saving as an .SF2. From what I've read, the main SFZ file that Musescore "officially" supports is the Salamander Grand. Apparently this has to do with the limited functionality of SFZ implementation within the Zerberus player. At any rate, what I'm practically saying is that if you have an SFZ that doesn't play well, maybe give this Polyphone program a go and convert your .SFZ to an .SF2 to see if it works in Musescore.

I want to create auxiliary Clarinets and Oboes using current sounds in FLuid. Do I isolate the samples, pitch them down in audacity and then make a soundfont? Or is there a way to do it just in Polyphone. Oh right, I'm using Polyphone, on a MacBookAir

I downloaded and unpressed a guitar.sf2 file. I double-clicked it and it said, do you want to install? I clicked yes and it took me to MuseScore. I went into the Synthesizer but the file didn't show up when I clicked the Add button.

Hi, I recently downloaded Blanchet 1720 SoundFont. I decompressed it and got sf2 file. It should work, but no matter in which program I use it, it has no sound. I don't know what's wrong. Can someone help me? I really need the SoundFont.

Alpine Project- Looking for partners to assist in the creation of higher quality orchestral sounds for Musescore

Hello All,

My name is Noah Horowitz, and over the last year I have been creating free instruments for NI's Kontakt out of public domain samples, and distributing them for free on the Alpine Project website (http://alpineproject.wixsite.com/main) In the process of this work, I've figured out ways to breathe new life into public domain samples. I have processed these samples to create better dynamics and tone. Feel free to listen to some of the demos on the instrument pages of the website to get a sense of the quality.

My idea is to create a musescore compatible sf2 or sfz (depending on how sfz implementation is coming along in development), that uses the samples that I've modified as a base sample set.

However, this will require some help. I have not scripted an sfz for about 3 years now, and have forgotten most of what I knew then. I also have no experience in creating sf2's.

Fortunately, many members of this forum have experience in creating sfz's and sf2's. I am looking to see if some of those talented folks would be willing to help me create a musescore-compatible version of the Alpine Project instruments.

I'm hoping some would like to help out with this, or share there thoughts on this idea. If you are, reply to this thread and shoot me an email at alpineproject1 [at] gmail.com .

Questions about the Serrano Violin SoundFont .sf2

$

This is getting old. I have found this soundfont "Serrano Violin"http://freedrumkits.net/download/freedrumkits-net-serrano-violin-sf2/

If you can answer these questions about the soundfont, What do you use the SoundFont for? Do you use it for MuseScore?, or do you use it for any other SoundFont Program?

Another question is this, where can I Find these Violin Samples? I know that in the description in the soundfont says that the samples were taken from "The God Father." I just don't know.

Any ideas? Please comment below for answers, results, and concerns.

How do I set SoundFonts to their original?

Hey. Is there a way to add a SoundFont and change all but one instrument back to the original SF? Because I just downloaded a SF that I needed for one instrument, but every instrument changed. Plus, I don't wanna do it manually.

Jazz Guitar Sound (Again)

A few months ago I posted a question to see if anyone had come across any good, realistic electric jazz guitar sounds. I received a couple of suggestions and links but nothing particularly inspiring turned up.

Anyone come across any new suggestions in the meantime? Thanks.
