I think a realistic drumline soundfont should be created for musescore
I've only recently been introduced to the world of soundfonts so this is all a bit confusing for me.
1. Does anyone know of a decent finger cymbal (zill) soundfont? The default sf on Musescore 2 just uses a horrible triangle noise
2. Is there any way to convert .wav files to soundfonts? I found really good .wav recordings of finger cymbals, and I'd love to just use those.
Help!
This is not really impacting but just disorganized. Conga drums are not part of a drum set they are an instrument in there own right. Would make more sense separated into into's own instrument.
Would be nice to have Timbales sound for those interested in Latin/Caribbean music.
Just saying...
I recently stumbled across the Blanchet 1720 SoundFont on my MacBook Pro. After listening to several samples on YouTube, I really couldn't tell the difference between the SoundFont and an actual harpsichord itself. However, upon opening the document (which was a sfArk file), I found out that Musescore wouldn't accept it for some apparent reason. I'm quite annoyed right now and would like to know a loophole around this problem. If not, any suggestions as to a good harpsichord SoundFont, preferably one with multiple stops. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
Recently, someone kindly offered to give me a decompressed file of the Blanchet 1720 as I could do not so myself (I have a Mac.) SoniMusicae, the site where it came from, also has some other wonderful SoundFonts as well.
Here are the links:
http://sonimusicae.free.fr/orguedesalon-en.html
http://sonimusicae.free.fr/petititalien-en.html
If anybody would please be kind enough to decompress said files for me, I'd highly appreciate it.
I've been uploading a number of scores to a group page recently, so that the music director and soloists working with me on developing a radio program can evaluate the orchestrations, etc. The problem is that although I am able to make the playback of these scores sound relatively good here in my computer by using a mix of Fluid and Tim, once they are uploaded to the Musescore site they sound uniformly awful.
I have experimented by changing the sounds assigned to the instruments using the mixer, and then re-uploading the scores, but unless I use the default sounds MuseScore 2.0.1 assigns, the uploaded version is likely to play back using instruments sounds completely different to what I specified.I have one score wherein the recorder sound came out as a honky-tonk piano, and another where the viola seems to be a kazoo. In other cases the balance is so badly off that things like timpani are almost inaudible.
What is going on, and/or what am I doing wrong? I have both Tim and Fluid loaded and the mixer drop-down contains them both. Why is the site not recognising my choices properly?
I wondered whether this will work and whether you can produce different organ registrations by combining the stops in VSL.
I use Garageband to record instrument tracks over MuseScore wav file exports. Works very well. But midi files not so much. Is there any record/mixer software that can actually read a midi file correctly?
New to MIDI,soundfonts and all that stuff.
Also, how do I tell MS where lame ddl is?
So I'm starting an AnguraKei band, and I have most of the need soundfonts for Japanese instruments. The thing is, I cannot find a good Shakuhachi soundfont. Almost all of them have Vibrato, which is always off time (Unless you're making some crappy new age music). I'd like to know where I can get a good one though. NO AUTOMATIC VIBRATO. NOTHING THAT WILL MAKE ME PAY MONEY. And NO CHINESE INSTRUMENTS. NO DIZI OR XIAO, DON'T EVEN TRY TELLING ME THEY SOUND THE SAME. I'd prefer if the soundfont was something like the one used in Memento Mori's "Sagamiya" (https://youtu.be/CijI2hOyJFA)
I'd like to add vsti's sounds on musescore, but I don't really know how can I do it! I've already downloaded the jack connection kit, I've already installed .. But anything happens ... Im using Window 10 and I've a miniHost to run the kontakt .. but Im getting some troubles with .. I'm a few lost .. Help me please if you might!
Thank's
I am using a modified GeneralUser GM soundfont with imported trumpet samples. They are okay, but they are really loud and always overpower everything else playing, even if I adjust the volume in the mixer. I tried switching to a different set of samples but still always really loud. Any ideas of how to fix this? The other instruments can be adjusted just fine.
There are no hotkeys for any of the marching percussion notes so I have to click on the desired note then place it manually into the score. How can this be fixed?Do I have to manually map out each key?
Howdy! I'm working on an iPad music app that uses a soundfont, and unfortunately the one I'm using puts the app over the 100MB cellular download limit. I really like this soundfont and I'd prefer not to ruin the quality by reducing the number of channels or lowering the resolution. It seems that the best way to solve this problem would be to encode the SF2 to SF3 and then uncompress the SF3 back to SF2 on-device. (I realize it's lossy, but at least OGG is pretty close to transparent.) Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any tools that reverse the SF3 encoding process. Does such a thing exist? Thank you!
I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find a Crotales soundfont. Anyone who's heard the default setting knows why.
I have been planning for some time to regularise the diversity of homes for the various MuseScore soundfonts I am maintaining.
To that end all of them have now been moved to the MuseScoreSoundfonts folder in my Google Drive.
The two versions of the default FluidR3Mono soundfont are now in a subfolder in MuseScoreSoundfonts.

I hope that ultimately this will make things easier to find.
Shortly after MuseScore 2 was released there were a series of complaints in the Forums about too much reverb on the Strings presets.
Whilst fixing a recently reported range problem I finally pinpointed the reason for this - there is a significant change to the release stage of the amplitude envelope which results in notes carrying on after the note has finished.
Whilst this adds to the reality of the strings when they are playing long chords as in most popular music situations, it leads to smearing of the sound when used for rapid passages such as those found in Vivaldi, Bach and other baroque composers.
I have therefore added a dryer strings preset (called Dry Strings) at Program #48 Bank #1
FluidR3Mono version 2.02 can be downloaded from the new permanent link to be found in this thread.......

Greetings everybody,
I am having a problem. I write for high school drumlines and when writing a unison part for tonal bass drums I find myself having to write in each drum separately. Doing this slows me down and takes away from my creative process. I am trying to use the "slash" note head in the middle of the staff, that when used makes the sound of all the bass drums together. I am also trying to use the "x" note head to make a unison rim click sound in the same fashion.
For tenor drums, I am trying to create an "x" note head for drums 1-4 plus the spock, that carries the same sound as a regular stroke would on each of the drums. I intend to use this to write in "crossovers".
How do I do this?
Thank you in advance for your help,
Richard Gross, MBA
Hello everyone! Ladies and Gentleman - I hereby present you the CompiFont, which basically is a compilation of many, MANY soundfonts into one - GM bank.

LINKS FOR SOUNDFONT: (can be downloaded as 2 divided parts: Orchestral and the rest or all in 1 .SF2):Orchestral part on MEGA.co.nz

Short history of the font.
I have seen CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth a while ago (I wonder if it was a year ago or more) and i felt kinda nostalgic about all the MIDI... but I also realised that all the GM soundfonts just doesn't seem to fit my ear. I decided to create my own GM .SF2. Something made out of precisely picked out samples out of every single SF2 file that I will stumble upon. I've made some research on how to make one, found out a program to do it [Viena by Synthfont, many thanks for that]... and spent quite some time on it.
Tributes
What does it comprise? The list is really, really long.
Out of the GM soundfonts used during creation were "Merlin Gold" (Merlin Pixel Arts), "Titanic 200 GM GS" (Congrats Luke Sena!), "Personal Copy" (Jim Roe), but also many more for reference like "Masterpiece" (found on http://fox-gieg.com/rkhive/banks.html), DrummGS, Joe's Best GM, Hubbe64... even good old Gravis Ultrasound was listened to! I am also very greatful for Keppy, creator of the best piano soundfont for the insight on how SF2 piano can sound.
I should credit "some" samples as well, which list is incomprehensibly long, and i don't remember all the ones used. There are some certainly worth acknowledging.
PIANO:
Yamaha 9ft Grand, Grand Piano Y-LP1, Clavinova P6 and Yamaha C5 used alltogether and tuned for the best performance as well as some piano instruments of unidentified origin (sorry for all the people that worked hard on all those samples, i simply lost track. The misc piano instruments came out of E-MU Proteus 2000 samples package with minor/major tweaks. There is also Clavinova Grand from one of the famous soundfonts.
GUITARS:
Enormous FG460s II Live Guitar Pack (complete recommendation!), Kamac Distortion Guitar and "Overdrive Guitar" the changes were major here and included samples swapping, Narubasso... sf2?, LesPaul guitars pack, Jackson Distortion Guitar....
WINDS:
UoI Trumpet NV4 + Roland trumpet, Trombone from Crisis, Custom(ly) made Trumpet Muted, French Horns from soundfont package that I happened to find on my HDD, Tweaked "Flute (TB)", Ethan's Bassoon, CLARINET, Piccolo CK....
STRINGS:
Cadenza Double Bass, Solo Viola, Super PizzStr and for the "All around strings": "STRING ENSEMBLE11", Strings 2LL + Strings1RR;
DRUMS:
Walthius, Melotti Drums, JD_Drums and Drumkits made from Royalty free Wave samples

Hi
I have recently had a bit of a play around with Musescore. My notation literacy is pretty poor, but I have been encouraged by what I have seen certainly ...
One of the "highlights" has been the fact that, for "free sounds" the collection that comes with Musescore (the FluidR3 soundfont essentially) I think is pretty good - it almost trumps Sonatina for me in that the sounds all seem fairly unified & cohesive together, quite listenable, & many more sound options are available.
BUT I am generally much more productive working with piano roll sequencers, & hence was keen to bring the FluidR3 Soundfont into my DAW ... (working here on a second hand macbook i picked up cheap, so keen to keep everything pretty "light", not too resource intensive ... currently playing back the .sfz version of Sonatina using Plogue Sforzando ...)
However when I download the FluidR3 .sf2 from the musescore site
http://www.musescore.org/download/fluid-soundfont.tar.gz,
i notice all the ensemble string sounds are missing ... (& possibly other sounds too...)
Has the soundset in Musescore been supplemented in some way? if so, where from?
& this raised a secondary question, when i looked up GM on Wikipedia, all the string instruments are only listed by individual, not "ensemble" format (i.e. no "violins 1 x 14, violins 2 x 11 etc ..). So is it true technically to sat that the sf2 / sf3 in Musescore is really GM compliant?
But primarilly, I would really like to be able to load all the default Soundfont sounds from Musescore in my DAW on my laptop.
So how can i achieve this?
Can the sounds be found in the nightly build path somewhere (for example)? On my macbook the "nuts & bolts" of the installation seem to be hidden out of view ...
