New to SoundFonts-Any Good Beginner's Guide?

$

Hello. I've been growing dissatisfied with some of the vanilla instrument sounds in MuseScore (goddamned C-clef strings), and so I've been looking into some installing some soundfonts. However, I'm more than a bit lost. Can I use multiple soundfonts in one score? Can I add effects (I.e static noise) with them? I've heard they can be edited. What program (preferably free) do I need to do this? How much can I edit it exactly?

Are there any good beginners tutorials to answer these questions?

Which is the BEST Viola Soundfont ever?

$

I have to say this, I need to find a really, really awesome Viola Soundfont for MuseScore. Because the viola in the FluidR3 soundfont is no-good and kind of out of tune. And the Viola soundfont was used for some other soundfonts like the Omega soundfont. I wish that the other soundfonts like the solo strings, ensembles, brass, woodwinds, etc would have awesome and better sounds just like the GeneralUser GS Soundfont for MuseScore. And I'm NOT talking about using the GeneralUser GS Soundfont for the up-coming update for MuseScore.

A few issues in the latest FluidR3Mono (Vs 2.310) soundfont.

2.0.3 / Win 7

Thanks to ChurchOrganist for the latest FluidR3Mono update (2.310). It fixed quite a few problems with loops and clicking noises. Just a few more issues:

1. Jazz guitar: The notes C#4 and above have a faulty volume envelope which swells slowly before decaying.
2. Guitar harmonics: Most samples have clicks at the end.
3. Slap bass: The D2 and D#2 seem to have "wolf" tones compared to the surrounding samples.
4. Tremelo: doesn't produce musical results at all. The noise continues even after key off.
5. Whistle: has a volume tremelo whose frequency increases with pitch, producing a harsh sound.
6. Bass + lead: Clicks in the samples.
7. Mellow yamaha grand: The natural keyboard sound is accompanied by some very bassy mechanical noise.
8. Guitar feedback: Click on key off.
9. Ice Rain: The background percussive loop is too slow compared to other GM2 sets.

I want to just use the alto flute (and maybe some other woodwinds/voice/perc) of SSO without having to use the whole soundfont (my laptop can't take that). Is it possible?

FluidR3Mono alto sax badly out of tune

I think this has come up before, but the alto sax is pretty bad, the pitch varies depending on the lenghth of the note playback. If you click to select a note it plays for a short time and if select with an arrow key it plays for a slightly longer time (why this happens at all is a bit weird too). There is a significant difference in pitch, see the attached file first is clicking a middle c, second selecting with arrow key and third the piano sound middle c for reference. during playback shorter notes are worse (the sample seems to bend a lot from way too flat to ok)

Squidfont Orchestral Soundfont in .sf2 format

Hi. I have some exciting news. When I downloaded some orchestra soundfonts, someone converted the Squidfont Orchestral Soundfont which another user created from .sfpack to .sf2 format!.

I need you all to please tell me in the comments if the .sfpack version of the Squidfont soundfont is the same and has the same instrument sounds as the .sf2 version does. Or are they different? And how did the user converted the soundfont from .sfpack to .sf2 format?

Want to hear how the soundfont sounds like, Here are some mp3 demos of the soundfont. Note: I used other soundfonts for extra instrument parts then just the soundfont itself.

How can I change Orchestra section samples to Solo Instruments Samples in a Soundfont?

$

Hi guys. I have a question about some orchestra sections in some orchestra soundfonts that I found like Squidfont Orchestra, Saint Jame's Orchestral soundfont, Bellatrix Orchestra, Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra, EWQL Orchestra Library, etc. How can I change each section samples to solo instrument samples from a section sample in any orchestra soundfont? Because if I would do that, then I would use these samples for more soundfonts I'm creating to use for MuseScore. I know that the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra Soundfont has solo instruments and sections. But other orchestra soundfonts like the Squidfont Orchestra, Bellatrix Orchestra, and EWQL Orchestra Library soundfont has a lot of instrument section samples. Not Solo instrument samples from these section samples.

Is there anyway to use these section samples and turn them into solo instruments samples in any orchestra soundfont by using an audio program that can transform from Instrument Section samples to Solo instrument samples?

If you have any answers or results. Please comment below.

Thanks.

How to find samples of "REAL" popular classical musicians for creating soundfonts

$

Everyone. This is really important. I need to find some very awesome instrument samples from Popular, and I mean "VERY POPULAR" and big fan classical musicians we have today that can play some note samples so I can use them for other soundfonts I'm creating.

Example Musicians like "Van Cliburn, Vanessa-Mae, Julia Fischer, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Diderik Suys, Janine Jansen, Daniel Hope," (etc):.

These musicians *would* be perfect to use if I would let them record some note samples for a lot of soundfonts that I am creating.

So far, I have seen a lot of instrument samples recorded by the Philharmonia Orchestra: http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/explore/make_music and from the University of Iowa: http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html which seem to turn out very good. But these samples are not good at all. Because they don't sound like the most famous popular classical musicians we have today. So I need to find a way to get these samples from the most famous classical musicians I picked in the description. Any ideas? Please comment below.

Thanks.

Ho to find a soundfont that sounds like a "REAL" Orchestra

Does anyone know if I can find a soundfont that sounds like a "REAL" Orchestra? Because every orchestra soundfont that I tried don't play like a real orchestra at all. All that I know that can play like a real orchestra is the "Vienna Symphonic Library Instruments"https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Products/Instruments and I don't even know how to download these instrument samples for a soundfont I'm creating.

Any Ideas?

And can you please comment below if you can find an orchestra soundfont that sounds like a real orchestra?

Thanks.

This is my orchestra soundfont that I created and that you can all use for your compositions and export them to any audio format in MuseScore and for your VideoScores.

Download the soundfont here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B2I_8bgGH-Q3ODhMSllYWFNMOVU?usp=...

You can also adjust the instruments and turn these .sfz files into one .sf2 file if you want.

If you have any questions or comments about the soundfont, Please feel-free to comment.

Enjoy the Soundfont.

Create new instrument using sound file?

Hello, I'm new to Musescore and I've got some questions. I think that this is the right place to ask the ones I have, though I'm not 100% on it. Anyways, I was wondering if it was possible to make a new instrument (or something else that would help) by importing a sound file (i.e. .wav, .mp3, etc.) and being able to use that as a playback sound. Just for example, if I recorded myself singing a note, would it be possible to use that sound of me singing the note when editing and playing the song back? If I arranged a piece, could I hear myself singing that note in different pitches, just as if it were any other instrument? If so, how?

Thanks, and sorry again if this isn't the right place to ask about this.

Hello, is there ANYONE that knows of a Plunger Mute soundfont that they could link me to? I have a very important project that requires a Plunger Mute soundfont for the Trumpet, and I've been looking everywhere day and night on Google to try and find one. I haven't had ANY luck. If there is anyone that can help me get a Plunger Mute soundfont, it would be beyond appreciated. Thank you for reading.

My Orchestra Soundfont in .sf2 Format.

Hi everyone. You might wanna look back in my Original page on this soundfont in .sfz format: https://musescore.org/en/node/125651

But however, I converted the .sfz files from my Orchestra soundfont to .sf2. Again, you can adjust the instruments, sounds, etc. And don't forget to use these .sf2 files and you can also turn them into one big soundfont.

Check out the converted .sf2 files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B2I_8bgGH-Q3QUxsOHF5cnlfcXc

PS: You can also use the soundfont for your compositions and convert your composition with the soundfont to any kind of audio format.

Let me know what you created and I'll see it.

Thanks.

Volume and note attacks in musescore.com soundfont playback / and in Export to WAV in Musescore

$

Hi,

I'm curious to know about two things about the musescore.com website playback. I use (since some time) the FluidR3 Mono in Musescore 2.0.2, and, on playback (pushing the playback button in my Musescore, I mean), both the volume and the note attack sounds quite fine. But when I upload to musescore.com, two things ocur:

-The volume or velocity for (for example) "ppp" dynamics (that I adjusted via the inspector on my score previously) sounds quite loud. And I have my cmputer's volume level right (on a 0-100 scale, it's 40).

-The note attacks in the playback on musescore.com is, well, hard - quite to the contrary to the playback in Musescore.

An example score is https://musescore.com/user/259496/scores/2667776 , An example for the playback on my computer (that is: how it sounds in my Musescore) is saved (mp3) on https://clyp.it/0s0axcwi (note, in clyp.it, one have to lower the volume level knob). For the attack issue, if you check bar 21, the eight after the quarter rest sounds softly, nicely. Note: I recorded this Musescore playback (I didn't use the Export to WAV) via a audio recorder installed on my computer that simply records the audio output to my headphones, and saves it to MP3 directly. I didn't post-processed the generated mp3 before uploading to clyp.it.

Both issues I know are minor, but, if musescore.com playback honored the settings (for the volume/dynamics) and did the same attacks that Musescore do, it would be great. The soundfont on the website, is it the same FluidR3 Mono soundfont than the one used in Musescore?

Sorry if this was asked before, is that's the case, tell me which thread discuss these things.

PS: I did a test on the "Export to WAV" - after selecting the "Save to Score" button in the View->Synthetiser page. It sounds exactly the same as the musescore.com's playback (with the two issues above). So perhaps that's the explanation? if so, why this option cannot honor the same playback that Musescore generates when pushing the play button?

Decompressing sfark files to sf2 files

$

For those of us who have very little computer/software understanding, the link to decompress an sfark file is a complete mystery (Musescore User Manual/Specialized Soundfonts/Note #2 = "sfArk is a compression format designed especially for compressing SoundFont files. Use the special sfArk software to decompress it." => http://melodymachine.com/sfark.htm). But I found the perfect way to do it and it is so easy. Go to https://cloudconvert.com/sfark-to-sf2. Click "Select Files" or the down arrow to select from Dropbox or Google Drive, etc. Then upload the sfark files which convert to sf2 files. The free site will only let you decompress for 25 minutes per day, but it was such a relief to find this website. I think this site will benefit others like me, if someone who knows how, would add it to the Musescore user manual.

I saw the latest video on the new update for Musecore 3.0.0. I saw how the guy took a string ensemble sample library that uses Kontakt, and implemented it in the Musecore Soundbank. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esNlwwcwOjo. Does this mean I can you Cinesamples as the playback audio for my desired Instrument?
